WebJul 25, 2024 · Actually, shortly after posting this thread I realised that this is probably the correct way for BitLocker to work (and it's the way it's described on its feature web page) -- when it "senses" any change in the BIOS/UEFI drive configuration it will ask for the recovery, which is indeed a good security measure.
