Web1 jan. 2005 · The internal structures of central uplifts of impact craters are among the most complex geologic features within Earth's crust. Upheaval Dome, Utah, is used as a reference and case study to display the internal geometry of a central uplift and to deduce mechanisms of uplift formation in impact craters within a sedimentary, siliciclastic target. WebMany explanations of salt domes suggest that the lower density of salt, compared to the density of overlying rock units, is the driving force of salt dome formation. That is a misconception. At the time of deposition, clastic sediments above the salt are uncompacted, contain significant pore space, and have a lower density than the salt.
